Nicolas DUCHAMP, flutist performer and teacher
Nicolas Duchamp is one of the most known respected and internationally acclaimed flute teacher and performer in the world today.
Recently living in New York City he is well known for "his warm tone, distinctive charm and creative poetic eloquence."
He has served for many years principal flutist for the National Opera Comique in Paris under Gerard Daguerre.
Duchamp has performed as a soloist with many of international country’s leading chamber music ensembles and orchestras.
Nicolas is well known for his commitment to teaching, including master classes and preparation of students for auditions and international competitions. He's been Jean Ferandis assistant in the famous "Ecole Normale Superieure de musique" in Paris. This love extends to music education of children, which he delivers with an eclectic style to his joyously rapt young students.
In 2009, the family of Philippe Gaubert formally commissioned Mr. Duchamp to celebrate Gaubert's contribution to the French art of flute playing in a world wide tour. Duchamp created the homage, GAUBERT VIVANT!. It premiered in Paris in 2009 and in an historic New York debut January 2011 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and Spivey Hall in Atlanta for the radio Performances today.
At the age of 14, Nicolas began studying in Paris with masters from the famous French school of flute playing, including Jean-Pierre Rampal , Michel Debost, Maurice Pruvot and Georges Alirol. He attended the Conservatoire National Superieur, where he studied with the world-acclaimed Maxence Larrieu. He has won numerous first prizes in international competitions, including the coveted International Jacques Chambon Award for flute. In 2003 his musical excellence was formally recognized by the French Senate.
