Nicolas DUCHAMP, flute
Olga VASSILEVA, piano
" FASCINATING VERDI"
AïDA, LE BAL MASQUE, TROUVERE, TRAVIATA, RIGOLETTO
This new CD by the flautist Nicolas DUCHAMP was recorded in the Chapelle Historique du Bon Pasteur, the best chamber music auditorium in Montreal, Canada.
With this disc, Nicolas Duchamp and Olga Vassileva (pianist) offer a wide-ranging musical vision of the major works of Verdi for the flute!
These works have never before been recorded and they present a noble vision of the flute at the service of the genuine masterpieces of a great musical repertoire. “Rigoletto”, “Aida”, “Un Ballo in Maschera”, “La Traviata”, “Il Trovatore”.
Using original editions, Nicolas Duchamp has refined the cadence and the embellishments of the pieces to maintain only the “pure” substance of Verdi’s operas.
"We trust in Verdi’s music for its sublime noble melodies which combine a sense of purity and drama, as well as in the variations written by the brilliant 19th century flautist Briccaldi. In order to execute these works, it is necessary to be self-focused and attain a state of absolute sincerity. This music is so powerful that, probably, the best thing is to let it live without “overplaying” and respect it with a moderate approach”.
The recording technique is completely unique: wanting to get as close as possible to a concert’s natural playing, the artists give two complete takes, and a synthesis is then produced by the artistic director to create a final montage! Therefore, the result is natural and reflects the performers’ playing at a given time without any technical artifice.
Nicolas Duchamp and Olga Vassileva are two artists who have worked together in Paris for more than 10 years in the same way as major string quartets. For them music should be a part of life as well as part of the concerts which they perform with such brio in Europe and the United States.
